Do You Know

Dreams slip away… lack of focus, motivation, money – always some reason for could’ve-beens…

Determination got us where we are. Barriers to overcome seemed monumental, and were… We found our niche, tucked in, road the wave, and somehow got there in the end.

Money was always funny; well, we spent as much as we made. Ma didn’t save unless there was a short term goal. I didn’t save unless it was the 401K, except for loose change, that really added up over time. Still don’t save and spend as much as we make…hmm… Can’t change your stripes…

Gratefully, our work-ethic was fierce – no breaks until the job is done, work until you drop, never quit a job without another job, and always work for more. I started working at 8 years old, just finished another online work-goal a few minutes ago. Ma started work at 15 and didn’t stop until the Axis-of-Evil at FFCA forced retirement at 65.

Do You Know by Diana Ross comes to mind:

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?

Do you get what you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you, there’s no open doors
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds
You knew how I loved you, but my spirit was free
Laughing at the questions that you once asked of me

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?

Now looking back at all we planned
We let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long before we see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?

Do you get what you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you, there’s no open doors
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?
